Homemade Tomato Pizza Sauce
super easy
Making your own pizza sauce is a great way to elevate your homemade pizzas! It’s surprisingly simple and packed with flavor, and you’ll likely never go back to store-bought sauce again. This recipe comes together in about 15 minutes and requires minimal ingredients.
Ingredients:
14 oz (400g) can diced tomatoes (or 3-4 fresh tomatoes)
1 tablespoon (14g) olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon (3g) sugar
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon (1g) dried oregano
1 teaspoon (1g) dried basil
Red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for about a minute, until fragrant.
Add the diced tomatoes (or crushed fresh tomatoes), sugar, bay leaf, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. If using fresh tomatoes, simmer for a bit longer until they soften and the sauce thickens slightly.
Remove the bay leaf and adjust seasonings to your preference. You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat (optional).
Use your delicious homemade pizza sauce immediately on your pizzas, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Tips:
For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender or food processor to give it a quick blend after simmering.
This sauce can also be frozen for later use. Let it cool completely, then store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Enjoy your delicious homemade pizza with this flavorful and easy tomato pizza sauce!
